Janata Bank opened its 93rd branch in Lakeside, major tourism area of Pokhara city. Inaugurating the branch office, Mayor of Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan said that banking is not just depositing money but also effectively and commercially expanding credit and providing service to public.
Mayor Gc urged the banking community not to focus just in city areas but expand their services throughout the nation to villages and rural areas as well and play a role in economic development and prosperity of people. He said, ” Bank should not just focus on deposit collection but should focus on investing in productive sector.” Bank should make people feel that Janata Bank actually belongs to Janata, he added. Bharat Raj Parajuli, Vice Chairman of Pokhara Tourism Council said that banks should expand credit to tourism promotion in subsidized interest rate. Jagat Bahadur Pahari, Chairman of Ward 6 Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan asked the banks to focus on social responsibility along with their service. Yadu Nath Adhikari, Member of Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that the banks and financial institutions play an important role in economic development and prosperity of nation.
Ram Prasad Bhandari, Operator of Janata Bank said that the bank opened its 93rd branch in Dihikopatan Lakeside to provide service to tourists as well as for tourism promotion. At present Janata Bank stands with a paid up capital of 8 billion Rupees and is operating with about 1000 employees. Bank is taking 10-13% interest in advancing credit and is giving 7% interest in deposit. Bank is also providing upto 13% interest in fixed deposit. At present only two branches of Janata Bank are operating in Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan at New Road and Bhandardhik. “After Lakeside, Bank is planning to open its 4th branch in Budibazar of Lekhnath within two months”, Bhandari informed. Today Bank also started its 94th branch in Attariya, Kailali.
