As in previous years, the sky of Lakeside ablazed with attractive fireworks to welcome new year 2018. Huge number of tourists gathered to spectacle the fireworks in midnight sky at the ongoing Pokhara Street Festival organised by REBAN.
In an effort to entertain guest in different way, the fireworks were displayed over Bashundhara Park and Komagane Park. The organisers informed that the fireworks were displayed at a cost of about 0.7 million rupees.
Mr Chau Bahadur Gurung, chairman of REBAN claimed that over 100 thousand tourists were gathered at Lakeside area to view fireworks as well as welcome new year. Gurung also informed that the association’s expectation to welcome 300 thousands tourist during the festival was fulfilled. Even though the administration bans firework, REBAN organises a single minute firework display to attract and entertain tourists.
The festival has always successfully helped to attract internal and international tourists to tourism hub of nation during off seasons as well. The festival was celebrated in 3.5km street of Lakeside where different stalls were set to serve the guests. Similarly pop concert was organised during nights at the main stage set at Komagane park. The festival that started from 13th Poush came to an end on Monday. Chairman of Western Hotel Association Mr. Bikal Tulachan informed that most of the hotels were overflowing with spectators during Sunday and Monday. However the usual complaint of guest about price hike still remained as previous editions.
The festival was promoted by Nepal Tourism Board. Organised with a slogan ” sadakmai khau, sadakmai nachau and sadakmai ramau”, the festival showcased cultural program from Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean group along with 7 groups from 7 provinces each. “The festival also featured handicraft items, documentary on adventure sports, children fun park as well”, said Mr. Bharat Sharma, coordinator of cultural programs.
“Orange stall from 6 districts was another attraction of the festival”, second vice chairman of REBAN Pokhara, Mr Laxman Baral said. Chairman Gurung thanked Pokhara Bus Committee and Bindhyabasini Bus Committee for helping to make festival a huge success by providing transportation service even up to 3am.
